Heart health New Year’s resolution
Heart disease and stroke are the two major killers of Canadian women, with one in three falling victim to one of the disorders. Latest research has suggested that by making simple lifestyle change the risk of the these two conditions can be decreased by as much as 80%. Heartbeats is a brand new one year project started in 2009 by The Heart Truth campaign to help Canadian women make their heart health better by suggesting lifestyle changes. The Heart Truth campaign will educate women on the risks, signs and symptoms of heart disease and stroke while the heartbeats aspect will send one lifestyle tip via txt message, email, or RSS feeds on a weekly basis. These tips are to be followed and are easily achieveable for women in all walks of life. It is thought that weekly tips will keep the women motivated and they should expect to see an improvement in their fitness levels on a regular basis. By making small simple changes on a weekly basis, the overall gain can be massive. Changes suggested will include things such as quitting smoking, exercising on a daily basis, eating 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables per day, and controlling other dietary risk factors. There will be a forum for women to help, support and motivate each other.
